Seven Mile Island Cultural Resort Feasibility Study (2019)
For the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation we undertook a feasibility study for a high-end cultural resort featuring indigenous cuisine, state of the art presentation facilities, a variety of themed programming, a spa amenity, etc. The resort is to be located on Seven Mile Island, on the west arm of Lake Scugog, not far from Port Perry, Ontario. We worked closely with LGA Architects who designed the facility. The project involved an extensive review of other indigenous-themed resorts and lodge operations across Canada, such as the
Diefenbunker Visitor Centre Feasibility Study (2019)
With Reich+Petch, TCI is involved in an assessment of the feasibility of an above-ground Visitor Centre for the Diefenbunker, Canada’s Cold War Museum. (As essentially a bomb shelter facility, the 120,000 sq. ft. bunker is below ground, and has very limited visibility as well as ground-level amenities). This project is currently underway, due for completion by early summer 2019.
Kawartha Lakes Public Library Strategic Plan (2019)
We undertook the development of a strategic plan for the 14- branch Kawartha Lakes Public Library system. (Kawartha Lakes is one of the largest municipalities, in terms of area, in Ontario.) The project involved a number of public meetings throughout the municipality; interviews with key politicians and stakeholders; an extensive community survey (garnering approximately 500 responses!); strategic planning sessions with the Library Board; and a benchmarking / best practice review of other comparable-sized communities. The recommendations were endorsed by the Board in late 2019, and is already being implemented.
Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity Museum Study (2019)
The Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity (CCGSD) located in Ottawa, has a national outreach and provides a variety of educational and counseling services, with a focus on youth and marginalized communities. As part of a move into new space, the CCGSD wanted to assess the feasibility of a museum / exhibit hall that would focus on the history of the gay and trans community and provide event space for a variety of workshops and educational activities. Working with Reich+Petch, TCI undertook an assessment of the market and financial implications of this major transition of the organization.
