Milton Library Alternative Service Strategy (2018)
Milton is one of the fastest-growing communities in Canada, and its public library system has recognized that is cannot keep pace with the increasing demand for library services through traditional bricks-and-mortar branch libraries. Accordingly, this project was to assess alternative ways and means of providing library services to growing areas through alternative strategies such as library kiosks in strategic locations; bookmobiles and book vans; on-line services; mobile hubs; etc. A variety of alternative means of delivering services were explored, and a combined strategy was developed and accepted by the Board.
Niagara Falls Farmer’s Market (2018)
This project, led by 360 Collective, involved the development of an operating and financial model for the redeveloped Niagara Falls Farmer’s Market at Sylvio Place in the Lundy’s Lane area of the City of Niagara Falls. Provisionally call the Niagara Falls Exchange (NFX) the model envisages a revitalized farmer’s market, a café, artist studio space, a woodworking area, a tool library, community meeting space and an events area. TCI’s role was to undertake interviews with potential users, comparable facilities, and to help with the financial analysis.
The Story of M (2018)
Following from TCI’s work with the City of Mississauga on the Heritage Management Strategy (2016) this unique initiative involved consulting the entire Mississauga community to find out from them, what stories they would like to see told that related to their own individual history and culture. Spearheaded by the Museums of Mississauga, this was a highly collaborative effort to consult the community (through a series of workshops and special events) to find out from them what resonates and is relevant. The findings are being used to shape the programming, exhibits and events put on by the Museum, as well as other cultural partners throughout the municipality.
District of West Vancouver Arts and Culture Strategy (2018)
With MDB Insight, TCI developed an Arts and Culture Strategy for the District of West Vancouver, one of the most well-off communities (in terms of household income) in Canada. TCI’s particular role was to examine the distribution of facilities throughout the community (i.e. places and spaces), and make recommendations regarding the provision and upkeep of these assets for arts and cultural activity. As well, recommendations for new facilities in the community, a to address key gaps in provision, were made. The plan was adopted by the municipality in the spring of 2018.
