P. 8
Task 3: Conduct Asset Inventory & Evaluation
Activities:
Inventory and evaluate arts and cultural facilities, organizations, sites and other assets
• Undertaken by Moncton-based Steven Thorne and Summerside-based Sara
Zilke, through in-person visitations (Island COVID protocols permitting)
• To include videos, photographs, and key stakeholder interviews (see Task 4,
below)
Should Island COVID protocols preclude this work being performed by Steven Thorne and/or Sara Zilke, the most workable option is for Town staff to provide image documentation, with key stakeholder interviews conducted virtually by TCI
Task 4: Conduct Key Stakeholder Interviews & Zoom “Cultural Café”
Activities:
Conduct 15 to 20 individual interviews by Zoom (or equivalent), or by telephone
• As noted above, these could be conducted in-person or conducted virtually
(TBD)
• Share in advance the interview agenda with interviewees, ensuring a.
comprehensive and consistent collection of data
• Beyond key institutional stakeholders in the cultural community,
interviewees would include elected Town officials, and others in the
community who represent key sub-sectors
• In addition to individual interviews, we will conduct a Zoom “Cultural Café” -
an opportunity for all interested cultural stakeholders to gather for an open, free-ranging conversation with our team
Task 5: Undertake Organizations Survey
Activities:
Undertake an on-line survey of arts and culture organizations, collated as a database of information to inform the Strategy
Collect ‘profile’ information such as mission/purpose, membership, budget
and sources of funding, governance structure, etc.
• Provide an opportunity for input concerning support and recognition from
the Town deemed useful to sectoral development
Task 6: Conduct Zoom Focus Groups
Activities:
Conduct Zoom-based (or equivalent) online focus groups with stakeholders and interested individuals in three locations: Georgetown, Montague and Cardigan
• These three locations would provide ‘information input hubs’ within the larger municipality
• Note: We would ask the Town to set up these focus groups and invite the participants; our role would be to moderate and facilitate
Task 7: Undertake Public Survey
Activities:
Undertake an on-line public survey (using Survey Monkey) to solicit input regarding expectations and recommendations for the Town’s Arts and Culture Strategy
• Discuss with the Steering Committee an incentive for participation in the public survey. (For example, a contest to win an iPad.) We have found incentives in other public surveys encourages a greater response overall, while eliciting greater input from the youth demographic.
• We ask that the Town to promote the survey using traditional and social media
Task 8: Benchmark Other Arts & Culture Strategies
Activities:
Benchmark best-case arts and culture strategies in three other communities of similar size, facing similar needs and challenges. (If a formal ‘strategy’ does not exist, examine approaches being taken by these other communities.)
• Look first to PEI, then the rest of Atlantic Canada, then elsewhere, to identify best-practice strategies
• We appreciate that Town staff may have ideas in this regard, and invite their input to identify candidate communities
