Takes To The Road Touring
Historically Black Colleges danUniversities (HBCU’s)
Over the past 14 years, the TTA Leadership Academy has focused on academic opportunities of private universi-
ties, leadership skills, etiquette, medical careers, entrepreneurship , Science Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathe-
matics (STEAM) and now Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU).
The Academy Team welcomed 25 participants to the 10th Top Teens National Leadership Academy convened in
Houston, Texas, July 14-21, 2018. Its theme, Navigating the Power of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts
& Mathematics (STEAM). The curriculum included demanding workshops in which Teens were given the op-
portunity to hear from leaders in STEAM related fields to learn about the opportunities available to them.
Navigating to the Future
This year the Academy went mobile and traveled to 4 different states over the course of 5 days. Teens learned
firsthand about the advantages of Historical Black Colleges & Universities. HBCUs visited include: Texas South-
ern University, Prairie A&M University, Xavier University, Dillard University, Tuskegee University, Fisk Universi-
ty and Tennessee State University.
The Academy concluded with a graduation in which Teens highlighted their experiences during their attend-
ance. As an added treat, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Johnson Space Center Chief Infor-
mation Officer was the keynote speaker. The Academy Team was excited to provide such a wonderful experience
for the Teens.
