“Strong Through Faith”

The prospect of visiting the “Big Easy” created a lot of excitement for the Top Teens as three-fourths of them
had not previously been to New Orleans. The city of New Orleans is home to 3 HBCUs: Dillard University, Xa-
vier University of Louisiana and Southern University of New Orleans. Upon arriving on campus at Dillard Uni-
versity, the Top Teens and Top Ladies were greeted by student leaders and university staff as they rolled out their
“blue and white” welcome carpet. The delegation escorted the Top Teens on the campus tour, pointing out
unique campus features and amenities. The Teens were presented with gift bags containing admissions infor-
mation and Dillard paraphernalia.
The student leaders emphasized the university’s STEAM curricula and its linkages to public and private entities
for career development. The Teens also noted the large number of summer programs on campus involving
young children. Per the staff, the university is an integral part of the community and is very involved in lending a
helping hand to make a difference in the way people live. The delegation was joined for lunch at the student cen-
ter by Lady Brenda Williams and several Top Ladies from the New Orleans Chapter. They presented the group
with goody bags containing snacks, water and gifts. Thanks New Orleans Chapter for that great Southern and
TLOD hospitality!
