Tennessee State University is located in the heart of Music City, Nashville, Tennessee. It is a beautiful campus with
their blue and white motif very prevalent. The Top Teens and chaperones were greeted by the student escorts and
presented with information packets about the university and TSU paraphernalia. The campus tour included visits
to the College of Engineering, the College of Health Sciences and the student center. During the walk-thru, the
student escorts were very proud to announce that the TSU College of Engineering had been selected as having
the Best STEM Program in 2017 by HBCU Digest! The College of Health Sciences has a sterling reputation of
preparing health care professionals. The Teens were able to visit a lab where the researchers focus on the preven-
tion of diseases that adversely affect African Americans. They also viewed some of the modern medical technolo-
gy equipment that nursing, physical therapy and occupational therapy students must master to earn their respec-
tive licenses. Further, TSU students and staffers were readily available to answer their inquiries about black col-
lege life, the won-loss record of the football team and dorm life among many others.
We were joined for lunch at the student center by Lady President Gracie Porter and members of the Nashville
Capitol City Chapter of Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. They also brought goody bags chocked full of snacks and
water. Several of the members were graduates of TSU and they enjoyed taking the tour with the Teens. Great
visit!
