El, Paso Chapter                                                       Teen Maria after her induction into the National
                                                                       Society of Collegiate Scholars

                                                                       On Wednesday October 25, 2017, Teen Maria Vasquez
                                                                       Consuegra was inducted into the National Society of
                                                                       Collegiate Scholars (NSCS). Founded in 1994 at
                                                                       George Washington University in Washington D.C., the
                                                                       Society is the nation’s premiere organization for high
                                                                       achieving students. Membership is by invitation only
                                                                       and is offered to freshmen and sophomore students
                                                                       who maintain a grade point average of 3.4 or higher.
                                                                       NSCS has active chapters at 330 colleges and
                                                                       universities across the United States. Its’ goal is to
                                                                       honor, inspire, and engage. The El Paso chapter started
                                                                       in December 2014 with 569 members. Teen Maria is a
                                                                       sophomore at Valle Verde Early College High School
                                                                       where she is active in Mock Trial and Debate. She is
                                                                       also the current financial secretary for the El Paso
                                                                       Chapter Top Teens of America.

Top Teen Cameron Edwards                                               Missouri City Chapter
“Young, Gifted and Black”
Top Teen Cameron Edwards is the epitome of Nina Simone’s                                                              39
legendary song “To Be Young, Gifted and Black”. He is a 2017
graduate of the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in
Houston, Texas and is a member of the Missouri City/Houston Space
City Chapter of Top Teens of America. Teen Cameron’s special gift
of dance has afforded him numerous opportunities to study under
many well-known dance professionals to include Ms. Lauren
Anderson, the first African American principal ballerina with the
Houston Grand Opera. This young talent has been honing his
considerable skills in dance since he was 9 years old. His career
reflects dedication, achievement, creativity and talent.
Accomplishments include receiving the 2016 NAACP Act-So double
gold medal in modern and contemporary dance and receiving the gold
medal in the 2017 NAACP ACT-So modern and contemporary dance
competition! Wow!
Further, during the 2017 TLOD National Convention in St. Louis,
MO, Teen Cameron presented a poignant, dazzling and emotionally
moving dance performance that had the audience of Top Ladies, Top
Teens, Lords and the public meeting guests on their feet! Following
this awe-inspiring performance, Lady Drema Lee Woldman,
National President of Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc., presented Teen
Cameron with a $2,500.00 scholarship that will assist in his upcoming
sojourn with the Alvin Ailey School of Dance in New York.
Cameron’s favorite scripture is “Your gift will make room for you and
place you before great men.” The Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc.,
