Public Relations

     Publicize the work you do. Areas and Chapters are strongly en-
                                                  couraged to publicize the work you do to brand the TLOD name.
                                                  Publicity can take a variety of forms, including local newspapers,
                                                  radio, television interviews and social media. The more you publi-
                                       cize your service, the more TLOD is publicized.

                                       Our presence at conferences or in the community, we are constantly asked
                                       “Who we are? Prepare your brief, interesting and energetic answer with
                                       passion in advance. Be Ready! Remember, you are the sales person for
                                       TLOD. You never know who you will meet along the TLOD journey.

                                       Ten Publicity Tips:

1. Know important facts about TLOD i.e. established, purpose, programs (thrusts and projects), geographies,
    approximate number of members (Ladies & Teens), partners, accomplishments and etc.

2. Review the National Press Kit; adapt for your chapter as applicable. A Press Release can be one element
    in a press kit.

3. Caution: When doing a TV or radio interview, the microphone is always on and can pick up anything you
    say.

4. Follow your local TV reporter on Twitter and other social media so you know what stories they’re covering
    and if ties in with something you are sponsoring or supporting.

5. Check the website of every media outlet you want to get into and look for “submit a news tip” form.

6. If you Chapter has a website, update frequently.

7. Pitching a story to the media, offer a Skype interview as an “extra.”

8. Be visible in the community and wear TLOD paraphernalia as appropriate and take pictures.

9. If you’re the local angle to a National story, pitch it to your local media and use the phrase “Here’s the local
    angle.”

10. Include money in your operating budget for Publicity.
