The Public Meeting/Joint Opening, chaired by the 11th National President Lady Jackie Pope, featured the intro-
duction of the Area One TLOD, Inc. and TTA Officers, National TLOD, Inc. President, 1st and 2nd Vice Presi-
dents, National TLOD, Inc. and TTA Officers, Past National TLOD, Inc. Presidents, Past National Area One Di-
rectors, by Lady Jacqueline Carter, Area One Administrative Assistant. During the Public Meeting/Joint Opening
and the Me and My Mentor Breakfast, the eight outstanding members of the Greater Houston Community listed
were recognized for providing exemplary service related to activities involving the programs and projects of
TLOD, Inc. The honorees were:

• Mayor of Houston, The Honorable Sylvester Turner
• Lady Gwen Carter, Long-time Volunteer of the Fort Bend Meals on Wheels
• Ms. Carlotta Brown, Principal of Peck Elementary School, recently promoted to Madison High School shortly

    after the Area One Conference
• The Honorable City Councilman Jerry Davis, former Top Teen
• The Honorable City Councilwoman Amanda Edwards, former Top Teen
• Mr. Fred Hoya, Bayway Lincoln
• Mr. Dameion Crook, Founding Principal of Mickey Leland College Preparatory Academy for Young Men
• Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church

The Southwest Cluster Chapters welcomed the Ladies, Lords and Teens Thursday, February 28, 2019, to School
Daze at the HBCU and College themed hostess night event. Conference attendees enjoyed showcasing their col-
lege attire and watching Drum Major Lady Harnell Williams lead Lady Shanda Provost, Cluster Coordinator and
Lady Mildred Robinson, Cluster Coordinator into the room while Feature Twirler Lady Pam Johnson, majorette
extraordinaire masterfully twirled her baton for a cheering crowd. Ladies, Lords and Teens danced the night away
to rhythm and blues, hip hop, old school and rap music.

The Area One Literary Café, chaired by Lady Barbara Smith, showcased the outstanding literary and performing
arts talents of Area One Top Teens as they competed for Literary and Performing Arts Awards.

One of the other highlights of the conference has historically been the Me and My Mentor Awards Breakfast at
which the Awards Committee made presentations to Teens, Senior Top Teens and Ladies.
