Detroit

Top Teens of America, the Detroit Chapter ended June with an exciting luncheon with mentors and mentees
sharing their latest activities. Teens opened the year with an afternoon retreat in August where the yearly calendar
was planned. The teens planned activities to show support for our major partners: March of Dimes, Sickle Cell
Anemia, St. Jude’s Research Hospital, and the NAACP along with ensuring that we push to aid those who are
homeless and hungry. Detroit Chapter was represented at the North Area Cluster and learned about how to conduct
TTA meetings.
On November 10, 2018, Top Teens hosted their first pancake prayer breakfast. Teens wore purple and talked about
prematurity awareness. Our March of Dimes chairperson, Teen Victor Jackson contacted the local March of Dimes
office and they supplied us with materials to share with breakfast guests.
Additionally, the Teens plan to participate in two events to fight hunger. The teens are going to participate in
Derrick Coleman’s Thanksgiving Repack at Forgotten Harvest and will help to serve those in need at the Church of
the New Covenant’s Thanksgiving Community Dinner on Thanksgiving Day.
In December, the teens will participate in a sock drive for the Detroit Rescue Mission and will actively participate in
a joint Christmas celebration with Top Ladies. Activities in November and December will focus on feeding those in
need and spreading joy. Teens will learn about the challenges and resources for obtaining higher education.
