Community Awareness Day
Greater Cleveland Top Teens, panel and parents discuss Bullying, Healthy Choices and
Teen/ Police Relations at Community Awareness Day event.
The Greater Cleveland Chapter hosted its inaugural end of program year Community Awareness Day (CAD), in
cooperation with our corporate sponsors Cleveland Clinic SouthPointe Hospital, Northeast Ohio Neighborhood Health
Services and AARP Ohio on June 30, 2018. The all-day event provided over 300 men and women, expecting mothers,
new parents, caretakers of children, youth ages 5-19, parents/guardians, mid-lifers ages 20-69, and senior citizens ages 70
and up an interactive opportunity to discuss their issues and concerns around health care disparities. The events theme
focused on strategies, knowledge, supports, and resource tools available to residents to better access and utilize quality
health care. Over 20 community officials and agencies served as panelists, moderators and vendors. The Chapter focus
during 2017-2019 is providing services to eliminate healthcare, employment, youth issues and education disparities.
Over 50 community teens joined the GCC Teens to discuss Healthy Choices: Food choices, nutrition and Bullying; they
discussed how to combat the psychological impact of bullying; its effect on teen suicide, school support services and
completed the Bullying Module. They also held a panel discussion on Teens and Police Relations with police officers from
Highland Hills and Warrensville Heights. Finally, the Teens honored the 2018 graduating seniors. Teen Cherron Smith,
GCC TTA President and Ladies Jackie Comeaux, GCC President and TTA Advisors Ladies Gina King and Kemberley
Jones presented certificates of achievement and excellence to Teen Terese McElrath, Teen Bradford Eason, Teen Autumn
Hamilton and Teen NiAmbi Fagan. Greater Cleveland seniors received over $3,000 in scholarship funds.
