II. COMMISSIONING OF TRAIN COLLISION AVOIDANCE SYSTEM (TCAS):
TCAS will be operational in sections equipped with Multi Aspect Color Light
Signaling or Continuous track detection by means of axle counters or track
circuits and loco pilot will follow line-side signals as per prevalent operating
rules. Provision of TCAS will be an additional safety aid to the loco pilot and
has following protective functions. (i) Prevention of Signal Passing At Danger
(SPAD). (ii) Supervising current speed to maximum permitted speed (MPS).
(iii) Automatic visual and audio warnings during over speeds. (iv) Automatic
application of brakes if current speed exceeds MPS. (v) Provide temporary
speed restrictions wherever RFID provided by engineering staff. (vi)
Prevention of Side Collision (infringement to adjacent lines) in Block Section,
(vii) Prevention of Head on & Rear end Collisions. (viii) Protection of Roll
Back. (ix) Manual SoS generation/Cancellation. (x) Auto whistling on
approach of Level Crossing Gate. TCAS is a support system to the loco pilot
and the system would intervene only when the loco pilot is not able to react
to unsafe situations. It operates in seven different modes for locomotive
operations. During the month this system was installed in loco
no.30691/WAP7 by firm M/s HBL Power Systems Limited, Hyderabad.
