III. RETROFITMENT OF HOTEL LOAD CONVERTER:
Conversion of EOG trains to HOG system is a mission item of Railway Board
and Dash board item of Hon’ble MR in the wake of huge financial saving in
terms of Diesel fuel besides reduction in noise and air pollution. To
accomplish this mission WAP7 locos are being retrofitted with Hotel Load
Converters to cope for the demand of HOG compatible trains. Till now
thirteen locomotives have been retrofitted with Hotel Load Converters
against the target of 11 locomotives.
IV. REPLACEMENT OF TBU/PBU WITH CONVENTIONAL BRAKE RIGGING IN
WAG-9 LOCOS.
RDSO issued instructions for Conversion of brake rigging of WAG9/9H locos
with TBU/PBU type brake rigging to conventional brake rigging. Sixteen
locomotives are converted to conventional brake rigging during this year
and till date total 42 locomotives are replaced with conventional brake
rigging.
V. PROBLEM OF BP NOT DROPPING THROUGH DBC (A9) IN E70 BRAKE
SYSTEM
1. ELS/LGD has highlighted the non-availability of “fail safe system” feature
in E-70 brake system during the failure of control reservoir pressure
transducer output due to opening or grounding to earth leading to brakes
not applying due to non-dropping of BP through A9 and also identified the
additional scenario of loss of CAB activation signal (2111A or 2111B signal) to
E-70 brake system also causes the same behaviour. During 2020-21, ELS/LGD
has conducted extensive study and all such scenarios along with possible
long term and short term measures have been advised to firm and during
December 2020, firm has incorporated all the solutions and developed the
Modified SOAEB system to overcome the identified issues. Persistent
correspondence and deliberations with firm has given fruitful results. Based
on the ELS/LGD efforts and joint exercise conducted with FTRTIL, RDSO has
issued final guidelines to provide modified SOAEB (System Operated
Automatic Emergency Braking) vide lr. No: EL/3.2.19/3-Phase, dt: 28.10.2021
in all the locomotives equipped with E-70 brake panels free of cost on PAN
INDIA basis (approx. 2000 locomotives). In addition to enhancing safety of
E-70 brake system, the efforts of ELS/LGD has resulted in savings of Rs.20
crores to IR as earlier firm was insisting to procure SOAEB and now firm has
agreed to provide the modified SOAEB in all locomotives on free of cost
basis.
