Transom knot, step 1.
The transom knot is a simple one for holding a horizontal pole against a tree or another
vertical pole. Loop the rope around the vertical pole up above the horizontal one (step 1),
then down and under itself (step 2).
Then bring the other end around the vertical pole below the horizontal one, over the first
rope, and under the two loops you’ve made (step 3). Then pull both ends to tighten the
knot. Two poles tied horizontally at the same height between two trees with transom knots,
overlaid with a piece of plywood (should you have used one as a backing for a manty)
make a nice table. All can be disassembled afterwards, “leaving no trace.”
