OPERATION
ASSESS
● Signs during operation (abnormal noise or vibration, impact by mobile
equipment) affecting the structure
● Blockages due to mechanical failure or dust accumulation on main drums
and counterweight systems
EXPERTISE AND TECHNOLOGY
Expertise and technology can support and complement the structure
assessment when visual inspection is not sufficient
● Use of drones
● Non destructive tests (NDT)
○ Ultrasonic test for thickness measurement, fatigue life assessment
and test of welds/plates
○ Magnetic particle, eddy-current, radiography tests for welds
● Infrared (IR) scan and vibration analysis to identify weak points in a
structure system.
● Schmidt hammer to measure concrete strength
● Surveying to monitor settlements, deflection or misplacement
IMPORTANT: Consult an expert when you are in doubt or when you have Level 1 findings.
When needed, Implement immediate risk mitigation like access restriction or reduction of load
carried by the conveyor.
