Preliminary considerations.
LOAD LIMITS, CONSTRUCTION ERRORS AND MODIFICATIONS

VERIFY:
▪ Load capacity and operation limits? Do you know it? Is your structure
designed to support the existing load?
▪ Errors in construction? (i.e. span length, size of structural elements type of

foundations and supports)
▪ Material used as per design? (thickness, type of material. fixation,flexible
connections, concrete, etc).

▪ Additions, modifications and changes were controlled and documented?

IMPORTANT: Do not allow overloads caused by dust or other materials accumulated on
your structures.
Critical Controls must be in place:
○ Documented Structural changes/modifications

○ Safe Operation Limits are known and respected
○ Routine Housekeeping and Inspection
○ Structure is protected (impact by mobile equipment, abrasion and corrosion)

GENERAL STRUCTURE

ASSESS

● Corrosion, cracks, delamination, flaked metal, spalling concrete, holes
● Missing elements or sections of the structure
