repair the damage to the flower garden. Funny thing; he
really didn’t seem to be a great gardener.
Aroha confided in me that he had been having an
ongoing battle with a rabbit and that the rabbit
appeared to be winning.
Before going upstairs to bed, I was given my
gardening gloves, a shovel and a quick point of the
figure towards the flower bed.
With a cup of hot tea in my hand for a final
nightcap, I stepped outside onto the small porch off my
room. Finally a safe warm place to relax!
A bit of a night breeze sent me back into my room to
get my bathrobe out of my suitcase. When I lifted it out
I saw a bag holding the contents from my mother’s safe
deposit box.
I had totally forgotten about my cousin putting it
there just before I left. It was a last minute thing. Anne
Marie had mumbled something about it and I told her
to just throw it in my suitcase. I was running late for the
plane and said I would look at it later.
Since this was the first quiet moment to see what the
bag contained, I carried it back to the cozy chair on the
porch. I pulled out several items from my childhood,
one at a time: baby shoes, a ceramic handprint from
kindergarten, which made me laugh and then there was
