Chapter 13
No Turning Back

The next morning came way too early. The
Professor was up bright and early and I on the other
hand was a bit groggy and slow on the uptake.

The plan was the Professor and I would drive
together and we would follow Aroha. Our first stop
was to pick up Nana Grace. I was still quite
apprehensive about meeting her.
Something deep inside made me feel very anxious
and queasy. As we drove up her driveway, I noticed a
beautiful view of the mist hugging the mountain. It
appeared different from her place, more intimate and
up close. It was really breath-taking.

Of course, the first thing the Professor noticed was
her succulent and prolific garden. The first words out
of his mouth, as we got out of his car were, “Wonder,
why the bloody rabbit hasn’t found this place.” Aroha
promptly responded; “Because, Professor, you’re an
easier mark and upsetting Nana Grace could be very
perilous.”
We had a good laugh over that and then stone faced
Nana Grace came out of the door. She slowly walked
down the stairs and announced there was kumara
