BROWARD HEALTH MEDICAL CENTER
Ralph Guarneri, MD
Ralph Guarneri, M.D., specializing in trauma and general
surgery, is board certified by the American Board of Surgery
in Surgery and Surgical Critical Care and has been staff at
Broward Health Medical Center since 1991.
Dr. Guarneri received his medical degree from the State
University of New York at Downstate and went on to com-
plete his surgical residency here, serving as Chief Resident.
Dr. Guarneri serves as a Clinical Instructor at Nova
Southeastern University and is a Member of the Board for
Broward Health Foundation. Additionally, Dr. Guarneri is a
member of the American Medical Association, Florida
Medical Association, Broward County Medical Association
and serves as President of the Fort Lauderdale Surgical Society.
In 2016, Dr. Guarneri was elected as the recipient of The Wilbur F. Helmus Medical
Humanitarian Award given annually by the Caducean Society of Greater Fort
Lauderdale. The award is given to a person who embodies the ideals and aspirations of
a true humanitarian, one who exists for the future of others, without being suffocated by
the present.
Benny Menendez, MD, FAAEM
Benny Menendez, M.D., is a board certified emergency
Physician and Chairman and Medical Director at Broward
Health Medical Center, a Level I Trauma Center and
Comprehensive Stroke Center. Dr. Menendez has been affil-
iated with Broward Health since 1993 and is also a member
of the Research Program at Broward Health.
Dr. Menendez earned a Medical degree from the
University of Puerto Rico, School of Medicine, and as Chief
Resident he completed his emergency medicine medical
residency at the University District Hospital in San Juan,
Puerto Rico.
Dr. Menendez is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Florida International University
(FIU) Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine and a Clinical Assistant Professor at Nova
Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Menendez serves as the EMS Medical Director for the cities of Fort Lauderdale,
Sunrise and Tamarac. In addition, he is an emergency physician for the Miami Dolphins
and Florida Panthers, as well as the Visiting Team Medical liaison for the NFL in Miami.
Dr. Menendez is also a fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine
(FAAEM) and a member of the Florida Association of EMS Medical Directors.
PALMETTO GENERAL HOSPITAL
Raul Alonso, MD
Dr. Raul Alonso has been a member of the medical staff at
Palmetto General Hospital since 1999. He serves as the
director of the cardiology fellowship program that is run by
the hospital in collaboration with Nova Southeastern
University. Dr. Alonso graduated from the University of
Miami School of Medicine and went on to complete his res-
idency in internal medicine, followed by his cardiology fel-
lowship. He is board certified in cardiovascular disease,
nuclear cardiology and echocardiography.
Manuel A. Orta, MD
Dr. Manuel A. Orta is a member of the medical staff at
Palmetto General Hospital. He is a pediatrician. Dr. Orta
received his Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Cell
Science from the University of Florida and his Doctorate of
Medicine from the University of New Jersey. He has been a
medical volunteer in Ecuador. Dr. Orta has been a guest
speaker at the Universidad Tecnica de Machala where he
spoke about molecular genetics. He also did a presentation
regarding Naturopathic Medicine at the University of
Bridgeport.
