15. Future Tense

The Future tense is used to express an action that is likely to happen in future.

Will and shall are used with verbs in various forms of the future tense.

          1. Simple Future Tense Form :

We use : will/shall + the root form of the verb.

Examples : (i) They will go to Mumbai tomorrow.

(ii) I shall visit the saloon next week.

(iii) I will not come office tomorrow.

We generally use will with all persons . With first person , we may use shall , but that is

                also rare.
          2. Future Continuous Tense Form :

We use : will be/shall be + ing form of verb to express an action in the future continuous
                tense.

Examples : (i) The labourers will be cleaning the floor of this building.

(ii) The ship will be sailing to Singapore soon.

(iii) We shallbe visiting zoo next month.

The uses of future continuous tense are explained in the table given at the beginning of
                the chapter.

          3. Future Perfect Tense Form :

We use : will have/shall have + past participle form of the verb to express an action in
the future perfect tense. The tense is generally used with a time expression beginning

                                          ,
with by : 'by that time' 'by next week' or 'by next month' .
Examples : (i) The gymnast will have performed in the stadium by evening.
