14. The Preposition
A preposition is a word which shows relation between a noun or a pronoun and
some other words in a sentence.
Read the following sentences :
on
1. The boy sat the bench.
2. The bat flew over the roof.
in
3. Keep the shoes the rack.
4. The ring is under the box.
The words on, over, in and under are used to show relation between the
boy and the bench, the bat and the roof, the shoes and the rack and the ring and
the box respectively.
A preposition is said to govern a noun or a pronoun and is always followed by the
objective case.
