16. Punctuation and Capital Letter
To bring clarity to our writing we use various marks of punctuation like full
stop (.), question mark (?), comma (,), etc. These punctuation marks make our
expressions clear and easier to follow.
We use marks of punctuation to separate one part of a sentence from another
part.
1. The Full Stop (.) : A full stop indicates the longest pause. It is used after
the simple sentence.
Example : I must wait till he returns.
2. The Question Mark (?) : The question mark (?) is placed at the end of an
interrogative sentence.
Examples : Is it your car?
Where is your father?
3. The Exclamation Mark (!) : The exclamation mark (!) is used after an
exclamatory sentence.
Examples : Excellent That was a brilliant movie.

What a luck We have won the match.
4. The Comma (,) : The comma (,) indicates the shortest pause.

Examples : Vijay was an honest obedient and helpful student.
Danny Jaya and Nasir went to the academy.

5. The Apostrophe (’) : The apostrophe (’) is used to show possession and
write to short form.
