18. Prefixes and Suffixes

We can form new words by adding prefixes and suffixes to the base words.

Read the below words.

un + happy = un happy
in + attentive = in attentive

im + possible = im possible
mis + behave = mis behave

In the above words un , , im , and mis are the prefixes . A prefix is added
before a word to form a new word. Did you notice that the addition of the above

prefixes gave us the opposite of the words?

Now, read the below words.
care + ful = careful

help + less = helpless

great + ness = greatness
achieve + ment = achievement

In the above words , less , ness , and ment are the suffixes . A suffix is added
after a word to form new word.
