You have been nominated by
as a particularly trusted colleague. Please help him or her to develop their
leadership skills by addressing the situations and statements given as if
you were the colleague who has nominated you. On the basis of your know-
ledge of your colleague and of their normal behaviour please put yourself
entirely in their shoes. Ignore as far as you can your own responses to the
situations and statements and limit your answers to those that you believe
your colleague would give if being totally frank.

    Having completed the task and keeping the results confidential between
you please return the completed forms to your colleague for their careful
consideration. Your colleague will want to discuss your assessment with
you so please bear in mind the reasons for the decisions that you make. After
you have answered any questions that your colleague may wish to ask of
you, you may wish to initiate further discussion around questions such as:

    n What is the most appropriate leadership style for the organization
        at present?

    n How does your colleague’s leadership style currently affect his or
        her subordinates?

    n What is likely to be the most appropriate leadership style for the
        organization in the future?

    n What do you both need to do now to make any transition to a new
        leadership style, now or in the future, as easy as possible?

    n If you agree that a change of style is or will be appropriate how can
        that need be best communicated to your teams?
