When Should I Call the Doctor?
If you suspect that you are experiencing a stroke or
you’ve had head trauma, call 911.
Head trauma symptoms may include: loss of conscious-
ness, head pain, lightheadedness, nausea and difficulty
with thinking. Stroke symptoms may be numbness on
one side of body, weakness, dizziness, slurred speech
and confusion. Seeking medical services immediately
and knowing onset time of symptoms, may provide the
best medical management, prevent further injury and
promote recovery.
Your Primary Care Physician May Refer You
to the Following Health Professionals.
You may benefit from seeing a neurologist, who is a
physician who specializes in neurological conditions,
to aid in proper diagnosis and treatment.
To evaluate your cognitive deficits, you may be referred
to a neuropsychologist who conducts a battery of tests
to establish your cognitive baseline.
If you have visual perceptual difficulties, you may be
referred to an ophthalmologist. This is an eye physician
who specializes in diagnosing and prescribing treatment
for defects, injuries and diseases of the eye.
