Conditional sentences basically are unreal situations, except type 0, so how to
change them into real situations? To change conditional sentences into real
situations, you need to remove the conditional aspect and express the
statement as a fact or a real situation. Here's how you can do it:
Type 1
a. Unreal: I will buy a new bike if I pass the exam.
Real: I will not (won’t) buy a new bike because I do not pass the exam.
I do not pass the exam so I will not (won’t) buy a new bike.
b. Unreal: If you go now, you will arrive there on time.
Real: Because you do not go now, you will not (won’t) arrive there on time.
You do not go now so you will not (won’t) arrive there on time.
Type 2
a. Unreal: I would ride a roller coaster every day if I owned a theme park.
Real: I do not ride a roller coaster every day because I do not own a
theme park.
I do not own a theme park so I do not ride a roller coaster every day.
b. Unreal: If I lived in Seoul, tonight I would go to that concert.
Real: Because I do not live in Seoul, tonight I do not go to that concert.
I do not live in Seoul so tonight I do not go to that concert.
Type 3
a. Unreal: I would have been happy if she had called me yesterday.
Real: I was not happy because she did not call me yesterday.
She did not call me yesterday so I was not happy.
b. Unreal: If I had left my house earlier, I wouldn't have missed the train.
Real: Because I did not leave my house earlier, I missed the train.
I did not leave my house earlier so I missed the train.
