                    Chennai Airport Gearing Up For


                              A Spectacular Makeover




                   hennai Airport has been witnessing
                   tremendous traffic growth over the years
            Cwhich has necessitated the revamp of the
             airport aimed at providing a world -class terminal
             to passengers. The second phase of Chennai
             Airport Modernization commenced in the year
             2018 when Hon’ble Prime Minister of India laid
             the Foundation stone for the prestigious project.
             This is a significant work undertaken by AAI,
             which is unswerving with its efforts to upgrade
             the airport infrastructure of India.
               The Modernisation work is being carried out
             will includes two stages. The first stage has seen
             dismantling of the existing Domestic Terminal
             T-2 with an area of 19,250 Sqm for construction
             of new facility. International Terminal T-3,
             with an area of 42,300 Sqm is set to be
             demolished and rebuilt for Phase II work after
             commissioning of Phase I by June 2022 (80%
             work complete till date). The modernization
             Phase-II will include integration of airside
             corridor for seamless flow, augmentation of
             contact bays, provision of multi-level car park
             and Metro rail connectivity.
               The new terminal and its interiors will
             reflect an array of aesthetic elements taken
             from the rich cultural repository of Tamil
             Nadu. The inimitable design will incorporate
             traditional elements expressed in Tamil culture
             predominantly from dance, music, folk arts
             and theatre. Wall arts and murals will endow a
             refreshing hue to the terminal interiors while
             the ‘Kolam’ patterns on floors and ceiling will
             amuse passengers. ■
