PROPERTIES
GEATAN MGT is a vegetable pyrogallic tannin that may be used both
when tanning fully vegetable leather and retanning chrome leather.
The composi on of GEATAN MGT has been adjusted so as to
reinforce its performance, mainly when used in vegetable tanning.
Due to its astringency characteris cs, GEATAN MGT imparts excellent
fixa on of the other vegetable pyrocatecholic tannins. As a result,
leather with high compac on, firm grain, light colour shade and
so ness are produced. In this case, it is recommended to use
mimosa and quebracho vegetable tannins (approx. 20% of the total
tannin offered) in order to increase the tanning power. When used
as a retanning agent on chrome leather, GEATAN MGT provides non-
elas c, compact leather with firm grain, that is, the typical
characteris c of vegetable-tanned leather. This product is
compa ble with all other vegetable tannins as well as synthe c and
resinous tannins. It may be used on all kinds of ar cles such as
leather for footwear, leathergoods and upholstery. It is
recommended to use between 6 and 10% calculated on the weight
of the shaves pelts together with the other retanning agents applied.
GEATAN MGT differs from GEATAN MGS because it imparts a higher
degree of compac on.
