CARTER HALPAIN
Although Carter Halpain didn’t have a chance to line up on the gate at the JS7 Freestone Spring Championship due to a torn MCL that he suffered in an incident at the Daytona RCSX, the Yamaha rider did some damage of his own prior to his injury. The Texan established himself as one of the top riders in the A class from the very first practice session, set- ting extremely fast times in anticipation of the first gate drop. Halpain struggled with the start in the 250 A heat race, but he quickly rebounded in the following Open Pro Sport moto by scoring a third place finish with the fastest lap to boot. The bLU cRU rider wasn’t able to execute the start to perfec- tion in the 250 A main event and found himself buried outside of the top five, but he kept his head down and charged all the way to a second place finish. In the Open Pro Sport main event, Halpain was involved in a heated battle for the final podium spot with Garrett Marchbanks and both riders went down at the midway point of the race after coming together in a corner. Although he would remount his bike and finish the race, it was later discovered that Halpain suffered an injury to his MCL and would be forced to miss the remainder of the spring events. Despite the injury, it’s safe to assume where he’d be had he lined up on the gate at Freestone.
MITCHELL FALK
Mitchell Falk may have experienced
his fair share of blemishes throughout the 2018 spring events, but the month of March was mostly filled with triumph and success for the Troy Lee Designs
| Red Bull | KTM rider. Between the
ten separate motos that he contested spanning from Daytona to Freestone, Falk only missed the podium on two separate occasions. His best finish came in the Open Pro Sport class at the Daytona RCSX, clinching the number one plate after pulling the holeshot in the main event. His other results didn’t disappoint either as Falk battled to a third place overall in 250 A at the World Center of Racing, establishing himself as the cream of the crop in the A class heading to Freestone. The California native always put himself in fighting position at the front of the pack and
was able to hold an unrelenting pace until the checkered flag, continuing
his run of good form in Texas. Falk’s blazing speed and outright consistency awarded him with top three finishes in all of his motos but one, furthering his reputation as one of the guys to beat in the A class.
