                   1. Definition of Descriptive Essay

The etymology of the word description comes from the word

'describe' which means to describe or illustrate or describe an object, be it

a place, a person so that the object depicted has a visual image. Then

descriptive can also be interpreted to describe an idea or point of view in

which to display a visual picture of it. In other words, descriptive text is a way

of describing or illustrating an object, person, or idea so that the reader can

see the object or idea physically. Furthermore, descriptive text specifically

explains something abstract to be concrete and this type of text has a

specific function to give a clear description of objects (humans and non-

humans or ideas) so that readers can visualize an object being depicted.

Description text can also be defined as the way something can be

seen, smelled, tasted, touched or heard. This is usually done to evoke or

stimulate moods such as happiness, solitude, or fear. So that descriptive text

can not only be used to describe more than a person's outer appearance

but can also be used to describe character traits or personality. Thus giving

rise to interactions with something that has been read, heard, or seen that

shapes one's understanding of the environment around us or the world.
