b. Formal Description
This type of descriptive writing resembles an argumentative
essay. The main goal should be to communicate a series of key points or
describe something in detail—with a clear structure. Instead of focusing
on the author's own experience, it is necessary to use certain categories
of information to give the most complete picture of what the author is
describing. This approach can also be appealing, especially when the
reader is more curious about the subject of the paper than the author's
response to it. Still, try not to bore it with overly formal language. Topics
for a formal description could include:
• Descriptive essay about climate change, politics or historical events.
• A news story that gives a summary of an event or information about
the place where it happened.
