Message from the President

As president of Nassau County Dental Society, I would like to thank the Board of
Directors for all their hard work in making our goals a reality. I would also like to

thank Our Executive Director, Dr. Gene Porcelli, recently honored with the Herb
Taub Distinguished Service Award, for his excellent organizational and management
skills.

This year holds great promise for our members to grow as dentists through quality
educational offerings and to grow as a person through the wonderful process of
volunteering. Our next event on Sunday, April 26th and Monday, April 27th is The

Greater Long Island Dental Meeting (GLIDM), a local meeting, held over two days, offers many interesting
courses, including the required courses for licensure. Courses for dental hygienists are featured this year.
We changed the format to include meals and time to socialize with colleagues and visit the many vendors
who support us. Table clinics will be given by the students and residents.

The NCDS has opportunities to volunteer in many different capacities. Our largest event is Give Kids a
Smile, which was held in February 2026. We had over 360 Volunteers, who gave the event a special energy
and we were able to screen and treat over 1100 school children. Due to our great success, Nassau County

has been chosen by the American Dental Association to host the Kickoff Event for the 25th Anniversary of
Give Kids A Smile at the national level. As this is a great honor, it also requires many more volunteers!

On September 27, 2026, we will hold our fourth Oral Cancer Walk. This event was created to support oral
cancer patients and research for treatments. Last year we presented a large donation to the Sloan Ketter-
ing Cancer Foundation. Our volunteer turnout continues to increase every year. We attract members from
all stages of their careers, pre-dental students, dental students and dental residents. It’s a great day for
you and your family to get some exercise, buy some raffle tickets and meet other members of the dental

profession.

We at Nassau County Dental Society plan on offering more hands-on courses in the future. If you have not
attended any of our courses yet, please consider attending and bring a friend! Today, local courses offer
many advantages including lower cost and ease of travel and parking. Our society will present four Gen-
eral Membership meetings, complete with dinner, vendors and speakers for free, as part of your dues.

As you can see, this organization is made up of dentists like you who want to use their talents and skills to
make a difference. If I have sparked your interest in one or more of these events, please do not hesitate to
reach out, attend an event, and volunteer. I am confident you will be glad you did.
