Message from the Executive Director (cont.)

put in a little effort, and make a difference.

In looking back, I realized I didn’t do all this for me; I did it for our profession, which in the end, benefits

me and all my colleagues. Insurance companies, politicians, corporations, lawyers, ALL want a piece of
YOUR pie. Get involved, not just to protect our profession, but to make it better! I hope every member
picks up the mantle and pays it forward for those yet to enter our profession.

However, through all my years in practice and all the thousands of hours spent volunteering within the
tripartite, the one thing I never imagined was that someday I’d be Executive Director of this organization.
It was never on my radar. But life has a funny way of bringing you the unexpected. I’m proud of what I’ve
been able accomplish in the last six years as Executive Director, helping to make NCDS better. Better for
those who volunteer and better for our members at large. But I’m turning 70 this year, obviously I won’t
be here forever. I’d like to know what we’ve built here is secure and sustainable for the future. For that, I

need your help. Please consider becoming an active member, even in a small way. Even more vital, please
make the effort to recruit just one non-member during your career. Make a difference, and in doing so,
          protect your future.
           Stay well,
          Gene Porcelli

         Message from the Editor (Continued)

In order to provide for patients we must be critical of our own work. This constant evaluation takes
place silently within us. When we see another dentist’s treatment that must be redone, please remem-
ber the dental community, the legal system, and most important patients are best served when we also
keep any negative thoughts in that very internal silent place.
