NCDS Immediate Past President, Dr. Douglas Schildhaus returned in early April from leading another

successful Medical/Dental Mission trip to El Salvador with Flying Doctors of America. His hard working team
endured difficult conditions and extreme heat, to provide much needed care to over 1000 people. Joining
this year’s team were fellow Nassau County Dental Society Dentists Drs. John Gaeta and Michael Schwartz,
and Stony Brook Dental Student Ahmed Abdullah.

In Our Society | Volunteer Members

Dr. Ilene J. Gold and Dr. Anthony Michael represented
Nassau County Dental Society at the annual Back 2 School
Store in held in Freeport in August 2024. This event is
sponsored by National Council of Jewish Women of which
Dr. Gold is a member. This one-day event is special for
children from underserved communities because they are
able to select back to school items, feel empowered, and be
ready for that first day of school. While the children are
"shopping", their parents visit the Family Resource Center,
a room where they receive information on health and
Drs. Ilene Gold and Anthony Michael at the NCDS table services in the county. At the NCDS exhibit, they were given
demonstrations on toothbrushing and flossing and handouts on the importance of dental health for adults
and their children. Dr. Gold says she has enjoyed her long-time membership in the NCDS as a practicing
dentist, and now as a volunteering and teaching dentist and is looking forward to the 2025 Back 2 School
Store event. Dr. Michael is a Pediatric resident at Northwell/LIJ. He came to volunteer after hearing about
the event from Dr. Joe Brofsky.
