IMPACT SURVEY & REPORT 2019

                 ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

The Port Grocery Project has managed to attract the support of most of the
supermarkets, wholesalers, retailers and food outlets in the local area to donate
surplus food, that is still within “use by” and “best before” dates and re-introduce
it into the community. This practice is in line the food waste hierarchy which sets
out steps for dealing with waste to minimise the impact on the environment. The
most preferable option is to prevent raw materials, ingredients and products
from becoming waste in the first place. The impact of any surplus food that is still
produced can be reduced by redistributing it for human consumption through
                 organisations such as charities.
