A little background information for the adult reader
How the story was born
There was a reason for writing this book and I would like
to share this reason with you. You may have bought the
book for your son or your daughter, your grandson or
granddaughter; it could be for a friend, a nephew or niece.
No matter who and what age you bought this book for I
would like very much as the author to tell you the reason
why I wrote it.
The original story was written in English and translated into
Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese by Maria Celeste
Nogueira, without her the book would never have been
told. Though it has sold many thousands of copies, even
today it has never been in a bookstore or in any type of
bookshop; there is a reason for this.
We must go back to when I first went to Brazil. The year
was 1990 and I had been offered a job to create and lead
a new publishing company in South America. This was a
big adventure and I approached it with a great deal of
