our task to contact the Pelé Empire to ask for the

right to use his name in our title. By return of post

that too was not approved. After all this time and

all the problems to get to this point we now faced

the fact that the company Pelé’ Sports based in

Guaracha, near Santos, São Paulo were adamant

that they would not give us the rights to use his

name. They explained that there were three areas

of publishing one in New York one in Sydney and

the other in Rio de Janeiro. End of story.

Or was it?

We wrote again with another explanation; back it

came rejected.

My Editor had a new idea, she was always full of

ideas: Write to Pelé himself, in Portuguese,

especially as he was then the serving chairman for

the Brazilian UNESCO: The United Nations

Department of Education, Scientific and Culture

Organisation.
