GSW Death (5)
A shooting at a neighborhood park barbecue resulted in one person being killed and another transported. Several
people reported hearing gunshots, but none identified a person. Some reported seeing a vehicle leave the scene, across
a golf-frisbee court.
Law enforcement photographed the scene, including several yards beyond and along the reported path of the vehicle
seen leaving. A description of the vehicle was given by some witnesses. They also reported at least one male in the front
passenger and a male driving – none reported seeing the back passenger area. Descriptions of the events, shooting,
vehicle, and males in the vehicle were varied and otherwise inconsistent.
At autopsy the decedent had three gunshot wounds – to the chest. Range was undetermined and both were front to
back; no other trajectory determinations specific to the scene were determined or reported. The surviving victim was
treated at the hospital for a gunshot wound to a leg. She reported not seeing anything when it happened and was
walking with her boyfriend, the decedent.
Several weeks later, two defendants were arrested after being identified from additional investigation and photographic
lineup. This included one defendant owning a vehicle similar to described by witnesses. Tire tread depressions were
photographed; no plaster impressions were taken.
The primary defendant was the reported driver. Comparison of the tires to the measurements of the photographed
depressions were inconsistent, as were the distances from the inside and outside of the tires – the wheelbase. No
firearms were found with either decedent. DNA evidence was not collected.
GSW Death (6)
Police responded to a 911 call reporting multiple homicides. Two males were deceased, and two other persons had been
hiding in a bedroom closet – a male and female; the female called 911 and the male reported being shot at, but not hit.
Each gave a statement, written on scene and at the police station. Except on the victims, no firearms were found in the
house; one was reported missing during an interview – it had been in a bedroom dresser. Empty shell casings were
found, all were of the same make and caliber.
Law enforcement photographed the interior of the house, and interviewed the witnesses. The two deceased males were
sitting on a couch and chair, their trajectories were documented at the scene and confirmed at autopsy – both origins
were approximately at the front door. Three interior bullet holes, one at an exterior wall, were also documented for
trajectories and determined to be two from the kitchen area, behind the couch, and one from between the couch and
