What is a victim?
I have wondered long and hard over this topic. Why? Why have I pondered this with
such gravity and passion? I have pondered it because I am a woman.
I am a woman and everywhere I look, I see language that expresses this notion that
‘women’ are somehow connected with ‘victim’.
Only… I am not fond of the word ‘victim’. I don’t feel like the word ‘victim’ is a word
that I want connected to my womanhood or my identity.
So again, I ask, more deeply now, what is a victim?
I think that a victim is a state of mind. Victimhood is a mindset. It is someone who
blames someone else for the outcome of any given situation or circumstance. A victim,
to me, is a person that does not take responsibility for the outcome of their life and
their story.
Why is this relevant to how to play life to your advantage?
When I look around myself at the world at large, I often wonder what it is that really
fuels the madness of our economic, social, and political environment. What is it that
is really driving our decisions in society as a whole? What is it that drives each of us to
make the choices that we do in our personal lives? When people buy shares in the
stock market, they purchase stocks based on confidence. When we purchase property,
we optimistically invest on the probability of our asset growing in value, therefore
