The Lungs
One of the major functions of the lungs is to
bring oxygen to the blood vessels so it can be
transported throughout the body. As you will
recall, oxygen is necessary to make ATP. Your
lungs are specifically designed to efficiently
transport oxygen. Small tubes known as
bronchi and bronchioles transport oxygen to all
areas of the lungs. This oxygen will then reach
structures known as alveoli which is where the
oxygen will cross into the bloodstream.
