Jeff Duclos is the current elected President of the
museum’s volunteer Board of Directors. As President, Jeff
presides over meetings and works closely with the executive
director in creating an agenda and, along with the Board, in
setting priorities.
Hello Museum Members
For sixteen years now our Annual GALA and fund
raiser has been making memories, connecting old
friends and making new ones.
To date, we have recognized 37 individuals for their enduring contribution to
the legacy and culture of surfing as recipients of our now iconic Silver
Surfer Award. Our congratulations go out to this year’s honorees –
LJ Richards, Mickey Munoz, Mary Lou Drummy and Greg MacGillivary.
We also send our thanks along to the City of Oceanside for further
honoring Silver Surfer recipient LJ Richards by naming November 2, 2024, as
“LJ Richards Day in the City of Oceanside.”
We have come a long way since our humble beginning in 1986 and we are
always looking for new ways to extend beyond the confines of the museum in
connecting withour supporters and advancing our mission. A perfect example
of this is our August presentation of “Rolling from the 60s into the 70s,” a
fundraisier celebrating the history of skateboarding. We are pleased to an-
nounce that this sold-out fundraiser will be returning as a new recurring event.
It is through your support of the museum and events such as these that so
greatly helps us in fulfilling our mandate to continue to capture, preserve and
celebrate surfing’s heritage and history.

Taylor Jensen Claims 4th World Longboard Title
Hearty congratulations go to Oceanside’s Taylor Jensen, who clinched his
4th World Longboard title in El Salvador in October, earning him a tie with his
father-in-law, Australia’s Nat Young, who won his longboard titles in the late
1980s..
Jensen’s first World Championship came in 2011, followed by 2012 and
2017, and his continued dominance and ability to adapt to all conditions makes
him a competitor to be reckoned with. He is also a 6 times North American
Champion and a 3 times Australasia Champion.
Taylor is the grandson of Lollie Taylor, a much-loved Oceanside watergirl
who waitressed at the old Betty’s Restaurant on the beach and sewed swim
trunks for the locals in the 1950s. He is married to Nat’s daughter Nava, and
the couple are raising two young surfer girls.
