unseen foe, trapped in an absurd situation, with no alterna-
tives available.
This anthology compiles the literary works of men
and women writers with a strong academic background.
Some teach literature at the university level, while others
are alumni of the Master’s Programme in Literature at Uni-
versitas Gadjah Mada. This meeting of teachers and their
students has therefore enriched the literature’s response to
the pandemic.
This anthology is supported by the “Gender Dimensions
of Social Conflict, Violence, and Peacebuilding”, a six-year
collaborative programme involving researchers from In-
donesia, Switzerland, and Nigeria. In its last three years,
this programme has sought to directly contribute to society
through various approaches. This anthology is one such con-
tribution, one that combines critical reflection with aesthetic
considerations.
This anthology presents a series of short stories, a me-
dium chosen to facilitate readers’ access to new perspec-
tives and approaches. Literature, though often an important
means of contributing to social discourse, is often ignored.
Indeed, literary texts are no less important than academic
texts in understanding ongoing phenomena.
We would like to express our greatest gratitude to the
authors for contributing to this anthology. We are truly for-
tunate to have been the first to read these genius works and
explore their deep meaning. We are certain that these stories
will contribute significantly to the field of literary research.
