Reference books are for library use only.
1. Reference queries
There are two types of reference queries:
a. The ready reference/directional queries
The questions may be just a request for a direction of the location of
a certain material and which involved a very limited search of the
collection or even none at all.
b. Search questions
These questions need an exhaustive search of all resources to be able
to present a satisfactory answer.
2. Search Strategies
The following steps are taken by the Reference librarian in locating
answers to the queries:
a. Establish and negotiate the query with the client. Select the types of
answer providing tools.
b. Within the answer providing tools, select several titles to search from.
c. Conduct the search to select the answer, and then submit this to the client
d. See if the answer is satisfactory for him, if not, renegotiate the query.
3. Information Resources
The use of different types of information resources shall be subjected to
the following conditions:
a. General Reference Books
General reference books and materials (encyclopedias,
dictionaries, atlases, etc.) shall be for room use only. General reference
books, globes, maps, etc. may be issued for classroom use upon request
of a faculty member but the materials should be returned within the day.
b. Theses, Dissertations, Periodicals, Vertical File Materials, Pictures and Maps.
These materials should be used within the library only.
4. Circulation Service
The circulation section takes charge of loaning out materials on the open
shelves.
