Session 3:
Priorities
Discipler leads or even reads the following. Feel free to
discuss anytime.
We’ve all known needy people, those people who con-
stantly press to be more important in our lives.
There’s a never-ending string of emails and texts. A flood of expectations
we can’t meet. A sense that nothing we do will ever be quite enough.
When someone demands to come first, it’s enough to end the rela-
tionship.
Yet, that’s exactly what Jesus expects of us. He expects to be first…
but not because he’s needy.
He presses close because we’re needy, because we can’t have a full,
satisfying, holy life apart from him. With him, we’re happier. We’re healthi-
er. And the joy we experience colors all the rest of our relationships, too.
Jesus expects to be your first priority not for his sake, but for yours.
The question is this: How do you make him your top priority? Practi-
cally speaking, what does that mean? How does it look?
That’s the discipleship issue you’ll be addressing in this session—and
it’s an important one.
The discipler leads and asks the following. The disciple
answers.
A Brief Pause
The next hour you spend exploring a Jesus-follower’s
priorities begins here and now.
Before we get to big-picture stuff, how are you doing in this moment?
Is there anything in your life that’s between you and being able to be fully
present and fully transparent with your discipler…and with Jesus?
