2.1 Major components of a computer system
The major components of a computer system are:

• Input unit
• Central Processing Unit (CPU)
• Main Memory
• Output unit.

• Secondary Storage

2.2 Functional components of a computer system

The components of a computer system in figure 7 above can be expanded into functional components as
shown in figure 8 below. These are:

• CPU
• ALU
• Main Memory
• Input Unit
• Output Unit
• Secondary Storage
