Chapter 18
Family Pressure
Family carries a lot of importance in a country like India.
In our families, not only our parents and siblings, but also other
relatives such as uncles and aunts are involved in the process of
decision-making. Disagreements with family members, or not
enough encouragement and support from the family members,
disheartens us and creates obstacles in our journey. When our own
people fail to understand us, we get mentally deranged and it affects
us severely. A lot of times the actions of our family members results
in our loss of confidence, and many a time we are forced to choose
between either our family or our career.
First of all, we must understand that every person has a different
nature. Are there any two people in the world who have similar
thoughts and choices?
Can everyone like the same food and colors? Can everyone like a
particular type of music? No. Different individuals come together and
share relationships to make a family. Everyone has a different way
of thinking, and so it is natural to have differences in opinions.
People of same age groups can have different thoughts and ideas—
and when there is a gap of one or two generation between a student
and his family members, or his relatives, then the possibility of
having similar thoughts is even lesser.
In a way this is a positive thing as well. When there are different
kinds of thoughts coming together, there is a possibility to arrive at a
better conclusion.
