Academic Electives




      World Geography



      This course will prepare students for their three-year required  Social Studies sequence. It also offers
      extensive opportunities to develop and refine writing competencies that prepare the student for the high
      school  Gateway Assessment. This course is offered in College Prep and Honors.


      Advanced Placement Human Geography



      This course is the study of people from a spatial and ecological perspective.   Students will use many
      forms of critical thinking and are expected to present, discuss, debate, and write free-response essays.
      This course also offers students the possibility of earning college credit.

      Introduction to Journalism



       Intro to Journalism students explores the history of journalism while learning the basic essentials of
       journalistic writing and research. You will learn the unique aspects of both writing and design for
       newspapers, magazines, and yearbooks, gaining experience in programs such as Adobe InDesign and
       Photoshop.

       Newspaper



       Students are trained in the production of the school’s newspaper The Mill Creek Chronicle. Learn the
       fundamentals of journalism, including interview techniques, event coverage, photography, design
       software, and business and legal aspects of newspaper production.
       (NOTE: When you register the course name will say Journalism II, this represents Newspaper class.)
        Yearbook


       Explore and experience the process involved in the creation of a large publication. This includes
       preplanning, designing layouts, copyrighting, proofreading, organizing visuals, photography, and the
       production and sale of the yearbook.
       (NOTE: When you register the course name will say Journalism III, this represents Yearbook class.)
