Growing Together

So-long single digits, ta-ta to the teens and cheerio to our twenties.
We recently reached a major milestone: 30 Years on South Street. We
are now thirty years strong. And that feels good.

Libraries are not made; they grow. By working together, the
Plymouth Public Library has grown, bloomed, re-blossomed, and
become the hub of the Plymouth community. We’ve built a strong
foundation for success. And we’re building an even stronger one for
                                         the future.

At the end of last year, we sent out our largest mailing ever. We
asked 22,000 Plymouth households to donate $30 in celebration of
our 30th anniversary. We received 75 checks within days. But that’s
not what surprised us. Most were from people who have never donated before – proving that
we are reaching more and more people every day – people, like you, that know and appreciate
the value of our services. Thank you for letting us know just how much!

We also launched a major new initiative: the Plymouth Public Library Guild. This program is an
opportunity for those who would like to help us realize visionary goals by making a planned gift
or donating $500 or more to the Foundation each year. We approached our longtime friends
and donors and, once again, were delighted by the response. We knew our patrons cared –
deeply, about our Library – the response to this program was overwhelming and we now have
over thirty founding members of our Guild. For more information, see the article on page 4.

Every gift helps us bring free programs for all ages: musical events, author talks, films, and our
Annual Arts & Craft festival, just to name a few. Every gift helps fund equipment, furniture, and
technology improvements we can use and share. And every gift gives us the opportunity to give
back through scholarships to students enrolled in the Literacy Program of Greater Plymouth.

Take a few minutes to review the Historical Timeline on page 6. In 1811, we started with 30
members and today…well, see for yourself!

As always, the best is yet to come! And, Spring, really is right around the corner!
