             144 making instruction work

work, and work as efficiently as we can make it, then we need
to think of those “extras”as obstacles rather than as necessities.

             Module Components
Before being ready to practice content derivation, you need
to have a list of module components. This list can be used as
a job aid to remind you of the components that you should
almost always include in a module and those that you might
include. In the list of module components that follows, the
items you should almost always include are shown in bold
             italics:

             Prepare to Practice

These are components used to get students to the point
where they are ready to practice the objective:
                •Objective

                • Skill check description

                • Description of relevance (to the student)

                • Modeling (demonstration) of competent performance

                • Instructional content (e.g., explanations, demos)

                • Alternate resources

             Relevant Practice

                •Practice

                • Feedback
