Ethical leadership affects everyone: College Fellow Laureate Prof Adrienne Clarke AC
(1955) addressed the Ethical Decision Making Summit

Ethical leadership in a residential setting?

         JCH hosts a national conversation

While difficult at the time, many at the Australian Defence Force Academy would thank Australian Sex Discrimination
Commissioner Elizabeth Broderick for focusing attention on its treatment of women. In July ADFA visited JCH to join with other
residential colleges, the Institute of Sport, and the Australian Federal Police as the College hosted this year’s ‘Ethical Decision
Making Summit’. Participants engaged on such varied topics as bystander responsibility in violence, cheating in sport, and the
role of ‘initiation’ in residential culture. The Principal, who has watched the summit develop since its inception in 2012, believes
that the willingness of ADFA cadets to engage with student leaders from other residential settings has been transformative for
all: ‘ADFA and university colleges across Australia are learning from each other on the ways in which all students can be treated
         with equal respect’.

                                                     Guest Speakers

The Hon. Adam Bandt was among a range of post-prandial speakers
in the College in second semester, addressing students about the
importance of engaging with the the electoral process. Along with
archaeologist Jeremy Smith, the College drew upon the insights of
Dr Richard Chambers, a clinical psychologist and Monash University
facilitator on ‘mindfulness’, and of staff including Rhodes Scholar
Dr Jenny Tran (‘How do I apply and interview for scholarships?), Dr
Julia Lai-Kwon and Paul Peng (‘How do I get involved in community
service?’), alumnae Jacky Oulton (2011) and Imogen Stafford (2010)
(‘How do I best prepare for the graduate entry examinations to law
and medicine?’), and Monash Scholar Dr Bridget Vincent (1998) on
                                                     scholarships and service.

A wealth of knowledge: Rhodes Scholar and Joske Scholar Dr Jenny

Adam Bandt, and Student Club Vice-President elect Rob Snelling
